Is it good to have so many versions of frameworks and IDE (Integrated Development Environment) every now and then? Is it making application developer’s life a struggle to keep updated with latest software upgrades?
There has always been a debate in the developer community about Microsoft coming up with newer versions for Framework and Visual Studio IDE (Integrated Development Environments) every year, makes harder to keep updated about the latest upgrades and put everything into implementation during code development.
The History and the Comparison:
1. .Net Framework 2.0 and Visual Studio 2005
It is an un-resistable fact that Microsoft made a BIG HIT and wonders with the launch of .Net Framework 2.0 and Visual Studio 2005 during (late 2004 / early 2005) redefining programing methodology with whole lot of new features. Although it was pretty tough for native ASP developers to transition into ASP.Net development mode (i.e.) think object oriented instead of structured scripting – Visual Studio 2005 eased out development life cycle.
2. Visual Studio 2008 and .Net Framerk 3.0 and 3.5:
Visual Studio 2008 and .Net Framerk 3.0 and 3.5 made progress during 2008 year with whole lot of integrated features – new framework model constructed over .Net 2.0 framework and more importantly brought in designing, development and testing frameworks into single IDE, collaborating Designer, Developers and Testers.
3. Visual Studio 2010 and .Net Framework 4.0:
Visual Studio 2010 was a light weight model made a subtle entrance bringing in focus on virtualization, simpler programming model with Entity Framework and better SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) for mobile based applications.
4. Visual Studio 2011 and .Net Framework 4.5 (NEW ENTRANT):
This year there is yet another version released Microsoft Visual Studio 2011 and .Net Framework 4.5. The team has come up fantabulous set of features which are very essential for current programming trend and IT industry needs. With the Core business sectors which are dependent on IT (Information Technology) companies demand for more robust, less expensive and quick iterative solutions, Microsoft’s Visual Studio 2011 defines better ALM (Application Life cycle Management) for developing Agile projects with a lot of cool easy-to-use features.
